Wild Sinensis vs Cultivated Militaris: Which Cordyceps Should You Buy?
By Kida Jadi Editorial · 05 Jul 2026
Not all cordyceps is the same. The two you\'ll encounter are Ophiocordyceps sinensis (wild) and Cordyceps militaris (cultivated).
Wild Cordyceps sinensis
The authentic Himalayan Keeda Jadi — the caterpillar-and-stalk form. It is rare, wild-harvested, expensive, and rich in tradition. Best for those who want the genuine article and are willing to pay a premium.
Cultivated Cordyceps militaris
A related species grown in labs on a nutrient substrate. It is bright orange, sustainable, far more affordable, and typically contains more cordycepin than wild sinensis. Excellent everyday value and eco-friendly.
Our take
If you want authenticity and tradition, choose wild sinensis. If you want cordycepin content, sustainability and value, militaris is superb. Many people use militaris daily and reserve wild sinensis for special tonics.
